Claims process
How do I make a claim?
Step 1: Visit your GP or access the insurer’s virtual GP service. If they deem it appropriate for you to have further treatment, you will need to obtain a referral to a specialist consultant in order to make a claim.
Step 2: Register your claim by contacting your insurer online or by telephone, or fill out a claims form (usually found online). Your insurer should provide you with a claims reference number. It is important that you obtain approval from your insurer prior to visiting a specialist or incurring treatment costs.
Step 3: Once your claim is approved, visit the agreed specialist consultant to receive treatment. The specialist consultant will normally require the claims reference number provided by your insurer.
Step 4: Your insurer should then settle the bill with the healthcare provider directly, less any excess which you are liable to pay yourself.
Please note: Each individual insurer’s claims processes may vary. You should check your private medical insurance documentation, visit their website or contact your insurer’s claims team for more information. Failure to follow your insurer’s claims process may result in your claim being declined.
